How did farm boys, factory and office workers and other men transform into combat ready soldiers, ready to kill or capture? Basic training! Many thanks to veterans and families who contributed to this 578-page volume. Click on the image for more fourth edition information. Purchase the paperback or kindle on Amazon.

Not all Camp Breckinridge basic training “survivors” remained stateside or faced combat in the Far East. This particular group of men ranged from WWII officers to wet-behind-the-ears privates. A rare segment of the famed Big Red One history is captured using hundreds of photos, rare publications and historical newspapers providing a glimpse into the lives of those facing the threat of a third world war.
